This weekend we celebrate our nation's Independence Day. We have barbeques with friends and family, fireworks displays light the night skies, big booms scare dogs and kids alike. All in an annual celebration of our country staking it's claim to live and think independently from those who established our nation as a colony.

Wouldn't it be great if we celebrated our independent minds every day?

Independence in thinking - about our businesses, our professional endeavors and our personal lives - is critical to our growth and success. In fact, having an independent mind is the key to defying gravity.

Independent thinking isnt just about thinking differently than everyone else. It also means thinking differently than our normal selves as well.

You see, status quo thinking creates business gravity. Business gravity limits our growth. Personal gravity limits our personal growth - so the lessons are the same for both aspects of our lives.

For example, we begin our business by thinking differently. But over time - that different thinking becomes a form of status quo. Over a longer time - that same innovative thinking forms the gravity that drags us down.

Either we continue to fuel our independence - growing and expanding our thinking - or we stagnate in our status quo.

We celebrate our country's independence this weekend. How about we also celebrate our own inspired and continued independent thinking! We can examine our status quo, ditch the drag and learn to soar freely, and independently, again...
